Dear Friends,

Sometimes, paying more actually saves you time, money, and sanity—but sometimes, it doesn’t! Here’s how to know when to save and when to splurge.

Have you ever bought something and immediately regretted it? I know I have. A while back, I used to buy clearance clothes that didn’t quite fit. I’d tell myself, “When I lose the weight, I’ll fit into this!” But that plan never worked. I ended up with 3 bins full of clothes that just sat there, untouched for an entire year. I didn’t lose the weight, and all that “saving” wasn’t worth it. Lesson learned: Just because something is on sale, doesn’t mean it’s saving you money! Sometimes, it’s smarter to spend a little more on high-quality items that last.

Update: 1/1/25 I know how stressful finances can be, especially with Christmas and the holidays just behind us. But here’s the thing—I’ve helped tons and tons of people break free from the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle by keeping it simple and teaching them how to take control of their finances, step by step (and yes, even have fun doing it)!

For my paper-loving friends, I’m giving you FREE access to the insanely popular Printable Budget Planner. Trust me, I know this planner will change the way you manage your money. And guess what? Today is the LAST DAY you’ll sit around worrying about it. Let’s get to work and make a plan that works for you!

But not everything needs to be a splurge! Here’s my guide on when to save and when to treat yourself:

SAVE: GROCERIES 🥕
Groceries are easy to overspend on, but you can save big by planning. Check for sales at your local grocery store, pair them with coupons, and use cash-back apps like Ibotta. A little time and effort will save you a ton.

SPLURGE: HEALTH 🧘‍♀️
If there’s one place to splurge, let it be your health. Whether it’s investing in a home workout system, a gym membership, or regular doctor visits, staying on top of your health now will save you far more in the long run!

Remember, it’s all about being mindful and strategic with where you put your money. It’s not always about saving a buck—sometimes, it’s about spending wisely.

SAVE: MAKEUP & HAIR 💄
I’ve tried every makeup brand, from high-end to budget-friendly, and here’s what I’ve learned—there’s no need to spend a fortune on beauty products. It’s easy to get sucked into buying the latest high-end items, but you can look great without the hefty price tag.

SPLURGE: PRODUCTS & SERVICES THAT MAKE YOU BETTER OR HELP YOU EARN 💼
Here’s where it’s okay to splurge: invest in things that make you a better person or help you make money. Books, courses, and self-help tools that improve your mindset or skills are worth every penny. Likewise, products and services that help you grow your business or career are investments that will pay off in the long run.

SAVE: FAST FOOD 🍔
Fast food is super tempting, especially on those busy nights when dinner feels impossible. But here’s the thing: by the time I drive to the drive-thru, order, and get the food, I’ve already spent 15-20 minutes. Instead, I could’ve whipped up a quick meal at home, saved money, and served something healthier. So, skip the drive-thru and make something simple at home.

SPLURGE: EXPERIENCES ✈️
When you’re saving on fast food, spend your extra on experiences. Research shows experiences, like travel or adventure, bring more lasting happiness than material things. Go to the Zoo. Take a trip to Mexico. Or head to the beach. These are the splurges you’ll never regret!

About making smart choices for what truly matters to you! 💸
